NFMC Provides Forest I.D. Day at Holy Saviour Catholic School

On Monday, September 18, NFMC was proud to kick off National Forest Week by teaming up with Holy Saviour Catholic School (Marathon) to provide students the opportunity to learn more about the importance of forests in our region. Mrs. Walsh’s grade 1/2 and Mrs. Widera’s grade 4/5 classes with assistance from Mrs. Ewen, participated in a tree identification day which took place within the enclosed trails located on the school property.
NFMC’s Planning Forester, Alaina Vandervoort, is a Registered Professional Forester (R.P.F.) who led students on a guided walk to learn how to identify trees, plants, fungus and learn about the importance of the surrounding boreal forest in our region. NFMC’s Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator, Brett Redden, was onsite to introduce and photograph the event. As you can tell by the students’ faces, it was an enjoyable day. NFMC looks forward to expanding this as an annual event with other local schools so as to educate the future of forestry…our youth!
