NFMC manages both the Pic and White River Forest Management Units (FMUs). Collectively, these forests cover a land mass of over 1.76 million hectares!

Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation (NFMC) was established on May 29, 2012 after more than a year of discussions and with the support of a local working group. The group is comprised of representatives from each of the local and First Nations communities within the proposed management area, existing SFL holders and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Working together, the group shared information and made recommendations to the government for the development and establishment of NFMC. It enabled open communication as well as a strong understanding of the governance and accountability rules and requirements with regards to establishing a Crown agency under the Ontario Forest Tenure Modernization Act, 2011.

The name “Nawiinginokiima” is an Ojibway word translated loosely to mean “working together”. Our name represents the collaboration and commitment of all those involved to successfully implement the first Local Forest Management Corporation in Ontario.
