Poplar Grinding for AV Terrace Bay Biomass

A contractor is working hard in the Pic Forest to grind existing poplar piles and haul the material to the pulp mill, AV Terrace Bay. The mill operates using 86% of its energy inputs from renewable biomass and is in demand of a higher volume of biomass, creating a new market opportunity for NFMC. The short-term demand has allowed NFMC to locate and mark numerous poplar piles throughout the Pic Forest for grinding, which not only removes existing wood piles but minimizes the loss of productive forest land. These locations have been mapped and will be replanted in the future. This initiative demonstrates NFMC’s sustainable forest management practices which help to maintain our Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
