NFMC’s Marathon Tree Restoration Project Now Complete!
2 years ago, NFMC collaborated with Jim Collins of Jack Pine Tree Care Services, and Mahsa Shidva, Owner of Marathon Canadian Tire, to begin a local tree restoration project in Marathon. A total of 44 Trees have now been planted.
In the spring of 2024, a total of 15 trees were planted(6x Peninsula Manor-Marathon Senior Supportive Housing and 9x Marathon Community Flowerbed Program). This year, 29 trees were planted (7x Veteran’s Square, 1x Marathon Town Hall, 19x Peninsula Manor, and 2x Marathon’s Community Flowerbed Program).
To further support local business, NFMC purchased a variety of species of trees from Marathon Canadian Tire. Jim Collins planted the trees at the following locations:
1. Veteran’s Square- Mugo Pine, Trembling Aspen, Sugar Maple, Silver Maple, Red Prince Weigela
2. Marathon Town Hall- Silver Queen Maple
3. Peninsula Manor-Marathon Senior Supportive Housing- Mugo Pine, Paper Birch, Trembling Aspen, Red Prince Weigela, Swedish Columnar Aspen, White Pine, and Green Spire Linden.
4. Marathon Community Flower Bed Program- Paper Birch
Jim also added water bags (green satchels located at base of trees provides supplemental drip irrigation during the early root establishment phase of tree growth), as well as bark protectors.
Thank you to Mahsa and Jim for their support during the entire process. Nice work on the tree planting, Jim!
