NFMC donates 2000 trees towards Hemlo’s Annual Tree Plant

NFMC welcomed the opportunity to work alongside and partner with Barrick Gold/Hemlo Operations, Science North-Northwest, and PRT Growing Services for Hemlo’s Annual Tree Plant. Every year, NFMC donates 2000 trees towards Hemlo’s tree rehabilitation initiative.

Approximately 178 people were onsite for the tree plant (including NFMC, Science North, PRT Growing Services, and Hemlo employees). The 160+ students were comprised of grades 6 , 7 and 8 students were from elementary schools within the region. They learned about the benefits of tree planting and other various science related topics.

Onsite from NFMC to assist with the tree plant: Planning Forester, R.P.F.-Alaina Vandervoort, Silviculture Supervisor- Scott Seaman, Silviculture Technician-Savannah Paton, and Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator-Brett Redden. Onsite from PRT Growing Services: Sylvain Montpellier.

NFMC’s partnership with Hemlo, an organization that advocates for educational and employment opportunities and collaborates with various industry stakeholders, is a wonderful example of how working forests can support and provide multiple benefits.
